Senior VMware Automation Engineer

This role specifically focuses on VMware vRealize Automation and vRealize Orchestrator technologies and how they work with other automation and cloud platforms. 
 
The Automation Engineer possesses extensive experience designing, managing, and configuring large-scale Enterprise-class data center infrastructure and is considered a subject matter expert. They will: 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Maintains technical credibility within the data center industry and the field through demonstration of thought leadership
  • Conducts client workshops and discovery sessions to accurately discover and document client's current state, and provides gap analysis, road maps, solution designs, and other recommendations based on findings
  • Identifies business requirements, objectives, and goals
  • Advises clients on best practices, frameworks, and pricing models for current and upcoming technologies
  • Creates detailed and professional solution designs, diagrams, and implementation plans for large deployments; designs may include transformational IT initiatives such as data centers of the future, virtualization, cloud, infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS), anything-as-a-service (XaaS), storage, networking, business continuity, and other solutions as related to the vRealize Automation environment; other documents include as-built and other client knowledge sharing documentation
  • Advances, endorses, and follows professional service delivery frameworks
  • Serves as a subject matter expert to diagnose and troubleshoot environments while coordinating with clients, vendors, project managers, and other resources
  • Maintains relationships with vendor contacts and clients
  • Maintains a broad understanding of most data center technologies and how it relates to each project
  • On occasion, attends technical presales meetings and presentations
  • Provides presentations of architectural and functional designs and solution demonstrations to the client
  • Provides Enterprise design, implementation, and integration expertise
  • Assists with Statements of Work (SOW) and project plans based on the client’s requirements and proof of concept to include prioritization and effort assessment
  • Assists with keeping related delivery templates accurate and up-to-date
  • Occasional travel may be required

An ideal candidate for this role is someone with:

  • Strong operations experience focused on automated deployments of data center hardware and software
  • Strong expertise designing, implementing, and configuring the latest versions of VMware vRealize Automation (vRA)
  • Strong expertise designing and building workflows using the latest versions of VMware vRealize Orchestrator (vRO)
  • Expertise in modern scripting languages (Python, Ruby, Perl, PowerShell, etc.), and software stacks
  • Experience with configuration management tools (Puppet, Chef, etc.), and OS installation technologies (PXE, Kickstart, etc.)
  • Experience with business requirements, technical analysis and design, coding, and testing
  • Experience with developing reports, workflows and metrics within software environment
  • Knowledge of categorizing and prioritizing analysis and mapping workload for planning and forecasting
  • Knowledge of integration points and the order in which these must be executed
  • Implementation of customizations within software environment
  • Experience understanding customers' business requirements
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong technical documentation skills
